God Moments
My life as a mommy is full of God-realizations. I daily find myself wondering things like, "Man, is that how God feels about me when I do xyz?" or "Boy I'm sure glad God has more patience with me than I currently have" or just "Wow. God."
Most of them are parenting moments as well. And let's face it, that's the best kind of Biblical integration there is--God is our ultimate daddy so it often just hits me in those parenting moments, how foolish of a child I also am.
Point in case. Here was today's God moment:
(Background: We cloth diaper. It requires flushing the poo and rinsing the diaper. And thoroughly washing my hands every time. Don't worry, I never skimp!)
So today, Isaac pooed. He told me by appearing naked in front of me. A previously diapered babe, I thought, "Wow, this is a great new phase!" (not really)
I grabbed the baby and cleaned his hieny. I then grabbed the diaper (pleasantly surprised to see that no one had played in the poo!) and proceeded to dump and rinse. This is just normal life. Nothing special. I do this daily. I'm a superhero, I know.
Then, came Mr. Curious. As I was rinsing the diaper, he began to climb somewhere that I had moments earlier scolded him for climbing. (AKA, he knew he shouldn't do it) Since my hands were busy all I could do was talk to him. I said something to the effect of, "Isaac, please don't climb up there. Isaac, mommy doesn't want you to climb up there. Please get down Mister. Don't touch that. Isaac do you hear Mommy? Isaac? Isaac do you hear me talking to you? I said don't climb up there and don't touch that...."
Don't do that. Can you hear me? I'm talking to you (and I actually do know what's best for you).
I can't discipline you right now, but I will when I'm finished cleaning up your poo ...
Do you ever feel like God is saying that to you too? Or did say...and you missed it? In this mommy moment, I felt like such a sinner who saw God. God is always cleaning up our messes and doesn't get noticed. Then he disciplines us and we do it again. We sometimes think we can out smart God when he's distracted (say, with a handful of poo?) but we should know better. God is a just God. He will give us each what we deserve in the right time.
Until then, I'm gonna try not to hand my God piles of poo to clean up. I know how messy that can be.

I just KNEW this would be an amazing blog post! LOVE YOU!
ReplyDeleteAnd Isaac was very, very quiet while his adventure was happening! Now taking off the diaper after it was dirty was very interesting. Maybe he's trying to tell you something. Just saying. Love you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a curious little guy.
