Choosing thankfulness
Being thankful is something so simple and yet so easy to forget.
I am always encouraged when I read my dear friend's blog. She's working along side of us here at ICS and I literally thank God for putting her here. Her insights and introspectiveness are a HUGE encouragement to me. I was thinking recently about this blog that she wrote last year about thankfulness. When I reread it again, I was convicted AGAIN of how easy it is for me to return to complaining instead of being grateful.
One thing she always reminds me is that being thankful is a choice. Sometimes it is a choice we have to force ourselves to see.
We all have those hard moments where nothing seems to go right and the entire week has imploded on us. Everything went wrong and we just sit there in a pile of failure. I don't imagine anyone *like* those weeks! But sometimes we linger in them a little longer than we should. I am guilty of this! I admit that I do like to have any excuse to throw a party....and sometimes it is a pity party.
But (as I was challenged to do every time I read or remember this particular blog) thankfulness is a choice and it's a choice I want to make.

"Habit is overcome by habit" - Erasmus
Since I am in the habit of not choosing thankfulness, I decided to create the habit of choosing thankfulness. I printed this handy dandy 100 day calendar to fill in 3 things every day that I am thankful for. It has only been three days, but here's what I have so far!
smiles at devos
toothless baby grins and giggles
silly pictures
playing trend
cool, refreshing autumn breezes
moments all together
baby books that hold memories
motivation
conversation with my love
Love this! Committing to gratitude and choosing it every moment is something that I am currently pursuing also. Love you, dear friend.
