Well on Sunday March 4, a Korean woman from the church offered to host a trip to the market to answer some questions. She originally proposed to teach us some phrases for buying meat there (cheaper than from the store...think "old fashioned, like a butcher" but with neon lights) but we never made it to the butcher. We did have a lot of fun though and it was exciting to be a tourist in the market (again).

First we stopped for a bowl of soup--flaxseed, clam and noodle. mmm. |
Chae is in front pointing to some of the roots we've seen lying around the market. |
I hardly notice this smell anymore but lots of foreigners comment on the grossness of this food's smell. It's called Bundegai (roasted silk worm larvae) |
Foreigner tourist shot--everyone eating their bundegai! (Catlin, Crystal, Me, Renee, and Sarah--we're a fun group!) |
Sarah proving that she has the bug in her mouth. |
A street food--basically just fried veggies around a hot dog.
So it was a pretty fun trip. I shop in the market every week but have come to just get what I need and go home. It was a good refresher course on what's around. When you come, you can join me there!
I like the neon lights comment. They are trying to distract foreigners attention away from the smells. A visual distraction attempt - FAIL. That was soooooooo nice of Chae to reach out and help you ladies. And I'm not even going to comment about bugs in your mouths, but I didn't really see one in your mouth, just Sarah's. Good girl Gail. Some things are just not right.
