This Little Blogger Went To Market...

You may have read my brother's blog about investigating the market with me last fall. (If not, look HereHere or Here!)

Well on Sunday March 4, a Korean woman from the church offered to host a trip to the market to answer some questions. She originally proposed to teach us some phrases for buying meat there (cheaper than from the store...think "old fashioned, like a butcher" but with neon lights) but we never made it to the butcher. We did have a lot of fun though and it was exciting to be a tourist in the market (again).
First we stopped for a bowl of soup--flaxseed, clam and noodle. mmm.

Chae is in front pointing to some of the roots we've seen lying around the market.

I hardly notice this smell anymore but lots of foreigners comment on the
grossness of this food's smell. It's called Bundegai (roasted silk worm larvae)

Foreigner tourist shot--everyone eating their bundegai!
(Catlin, Crystal, Me, Renee, and Sarah--we're a fun group!)

Sarah proving that she has the bug in her mouth.

A street food--basically just fried veggies around a hot dog.

So it was a pretty fun trip. I shop in the market every week but have come to  just get what I need and go home. It was a good refresher course on what's around. When you come, you can join me there!

  1. I like the neon lights comment. They are trying to distract foreigners attention away from the smells. A visual distraction attempt - FAIL. That was soooooooo nice of Chae to reach out and help you ladies. And I'm not even going to comment about bugs in your mouths, but I didn't really see one in your mouth, just Sarah's. Good girl Gail. Some things are just not right.
