Donations Drive

For the past few years ICS has given donations of toiletries to a food bank in town at Christmas. This year I asked if I could make it even bigger and took on a huge overhaul! I interviewed the food bank about the people they serve, how they operate, and the donations they need most. Then I spread the word (as best I could not actually being at the school teaching) and now the time is here.

(Updated more throughout the week)
Each the class collect a different item. At the end of the week the class with
the highest percentage of giving will go with me to the donation site to deliver the goods :)

Laurie and Emma are my helpers!

Monday's collection: rice

Tuesday's collection: ramien and snacks

Wednesday's collection: soaps of all varieties
Sorting station with 2 little helpers

It's a big mess, but somebody's got to do it!

Nice work!

Thursday's collection: toiletries
And the last day...
Friday's collection: blankets, coats, thermals, socks
There's so much! Wow!

At the end of the day, at the end of the week. This
This is incredible! Go conquerors!

In a year where we have the lowest enrollment in over a decade (a mere 120 and change) we have produced an abundance of goods to help our community.

This week we collected over

  • $250
  • 500 lbs of rice
  • 300 snacks
  • 500 toiletries
  • 100 toothbrushes
  • 200 rolls of toilet paper and tissue boxes
  • and heaps of socks, thermals, blankets and coats!
I am SO proud of the students and families for making this happen, really getting involved and for giving so much!

This was exciting enough, but at the end of the day we found out that next week we will be interviewed by a local news team for TV and print!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are rockin' the community!

  1. WOW! Good for you. What a wonderful thing to do. (That's a lot of rice. Do you live in Korea or something?)

  2. Holy cow Bat Man - that's an abundance of donations. That will be great and free publicity for ICS. Make sure it gets in the e-newsletter that NICS publishes monthly. Good job everyone esp. Gail.
    Love you, Mom
