A Very Hungry Caterpillar Party

Isaac first birthday party turned into a great day and a fun homemade event! We are lucky to have a fun Kids' Cafe close by us where the party room is pretty affordable. I knew that I would rather have the party there than at home because I don't like to clean up ;)

You saw the homemade invitations here and our theme was revealed: The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I love this book and Isaac loves this book. It's such an easy, budget comfy theme too because the book is your total inspiration. I did add some really fun elements though that I loved. It was a lot of work but a LOT of fun to put together this party!

Isaac wore his hanbok just for a little while at the party because it's Korean tradition but we'd already done a doljabi at his 100 days party and didn't feel the need to duplicate. The main event was eating cake and playing in the Kids' Cafe!

Here you can see some of the signs John and Ferial made. The Little Bear Kids' Cafe was new to most people and it's always an adventure to fin the right building in Korea. So we had signs to show people where to go.
Ferial is a great graphic designer and helped me out so much making the things I asked. We just scanned pages from the book and she edited them. You can cut this step out and by packages like this on etsy, but I had a wonderfully talented friend willing to help me-yay! Here are the party favors-caterpillar food (korean skittles and m&ms with his face on them!), water bottle labels and a guestbook page for people to write to Iz.

Of course the food we had was the food that Mr. Caterpillar ate in the book. We stuck to the 5 basic fruits and a few of Isaac's favorite snacks to keep it affordable and save space! Again, you can buy signs exactly like this on etsy but Ferial was willing to personalize and edit them for me for free. I am SO grateful!

CakeWalk made our cake and cupcakes. Mylene, the owner of CW, is the business manager at ICS and we loooooooooove everything she makes. I asked her to specially make this cake with much less sugar than normal because it was Isaac's first cake and first sugar. She obliged and guess what---It was the best cake I've tasted! Isaac was a little unsure at first, but he eventually dug into the cupcake and ate his way through. (Later he ate one, big, green , juicy leaf and he was satisfied!)

We had lots of unexpected presents and lots of fun opening them. Isaac clapped at most of them but especially his fun Pororo Car! Thank you everyone who sent presents, it's fun to have lots for Isaac to do these days!

Last, but not at all least, this is the fun painting project that I thought up and it worked out FANTASTIC! Even though I knew Little Bear was already very colorful and I didn't want everything caterpillar themed to take over the place, I did was something fruit themed just for fun. I decided to have Isaac finger paint giant fruit. Finger painting looks a lot like Eric Carle painting and it was a way to include him on the process! It actually ended up being foot-painting because Iz didn't want to use his fingers but he did like "sliding" around on the big papers!!! hehehe
Then I remembered that there was the big window on our room and we could hang the fruit there and let people take pictures in the holes if they wanted. This was by far my favorite homemade touch to the party!

P.S. I mentioned earlier that some of the "caterpillar food" m&ms had Isaac's face on it. Did you catch that? Well, when I originally wrote this, I didn't have a picture of them up close but I do now! Check out how cute this is! You can personalize your own M&Ms at Mars Co. My parents surprised us with these, which was perfect since it was the same idea for take home gift!
